As an Opening Exhibition, operating together with the revival issue of FOIL magazine vol. 1, FOIL GALLERY presents a group show of 7 artists from both Japan and overseas, including who have never been introduced in Japan.
Under the theme of "Co-exist", all the 7 artists unfold their own creative worlds at this new space, FOIL GALLERY.







Anders Edstrom
Born 1966, FroNsoN, Sweden. Lives and works in Tokyo. Moved to France in 1990, after working as a photographer assistant for Labe Allwin och Lennart Dannstedt in Sweden. Taking advantage of an exhibition at ARC-MUSEE D'ART MODERNE DE LA VILLE DE PARIS'L'Hiver de l'amour(The Winter of Love)'in 1994, which EdstroNm took photographs of MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA, he started to work with Olivier Zahm in Purple magazine. In 1996, he moved to London and started to produce some films. He has been also actively participated in gropup-exhibitions including gElysian Fieldsh, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris in 2000 and gChic Clicsh Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston in 2002. His photobooks were published such as "spidernets places a crew" + "waiting some birds a bus a woman"i2004Asteidl/MACK).





Gareth McConnell
Born 1972 Carrickfegus, Northern Ireland. Lives and works in London.
McConnell has made a successive series of simple but highly eloquent
portraits of figures whose lives can border on the extreme, such as young
homeless living in institutions and loyalists of Northern Ireland.
Awarded John Kobal Portrait Award, National Portlait gallery, london, 1999.
Mainly in London, he has been actively joining group exhibitions.




Han Sungpil

Born 1972, Seoul, South Korea. Lives and works in Seoul.
A series of works titled "The sea I dreamt" has caused a sensation, his both
solo and group show with the title was held in Korea, Japan, Spain, U.K and
U.S.A. , and also the photobook of the same title was published in 2002.
Kiyosato Museum of Photographic Arts, Japan and Selasar Sunaryo Art Space
have included Han Sungpil's photographs in its collection.




Jodie Vicenta Jacobson
Born 1977, Colorado, the United States. Lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Held solo shows at Yancey Richardson Gallery in NY, Herzliya Museum in Israel, and participated in some group exhibitions in NY and Europe. Featured in Blind Spot Magazine #30, she is one of the young photographers
who attracts attention from all over the world.






Jun Tsunoda

Born 1960, Aichi, Japan. Graduated from Tama Art University, Department od Design. While working as a designer, he keeps making his paintings and has been playing an active part as an artist. His latesexhibition "Exodus" was held at Gallery Trax in 2005.





Syoin Kajii

Born 1976, Niigata, Japan. Graduated from Koyasan University in Mikkyo (Esoteric Buddhism) in 1999.
He has started off to publish his works on photography magazines since he was 16 years old. From 1995 to 1999, he had served Buddhist apprenticeship at Koyasan (Mt. Koya). In 2004, he was awarded the 1st FOIL Award for his series of pictures in which he took a succession of waves on a shore in Sado. Following the FOIL Award, he published a collection gNAMI", and was awarded the Rookie of the Year 2005 by The Photographic Society of Japan for this collection. Recently he has been active as a photographer while being a monk of the Shingon sect in Sado island.






Nohagi Naka
Born 1979, Tokyo, Japan. Graduated from Tokyo Zokei University, Department of Photography. Since 2003, she has been active as an independent photographer after working at Amana Inc., and also kept producing her own artistic works.
